In 2010, UFC underwent a rapid evolution into a global sport. Fighters from nearly every part of the globe actively competed in top level bouts, providing for exciting matches at the highest level of competition. Looking forward to 2011 and the upcoming UFC 124, it’s important to understand the key championship bouts of recent events.  Here's a look at UFC results from the recent past:

UFC 121 Championships

Cain VelasquezHosted in California, UFC 121 represented one of the most viewed MMA events in history. Held on October 23, 2010, there were nearly 15,000 fans in attendance with many more watching through UFC pay per view. The key match featured an impressive TKO when Cain Velasquez  successfully challenged the heavyweight title of Brock Lesnar at 4:12 in the first round. Look for Lesnar to rebound in 2011.

UFC 122 and 123

As the second championship bout in Europe, UFC 122 had a stacked card of international competitors. While there were no championship fights, the venue provided a number of upstarts with momentum heading into 2011.

UFC 123 featured a series of challenger bouts including Quinton “Rampage” Jackson’s split decision defeat of Lyoto Machinda in the light heavyweight decision – look for both fighters to contend next year in a competitive division.

UFC 124 Championships

George St. Pierre of Canada took on a challenge from American upstart Josh Koscheck in the Welterweight Championship bout at UFC 124.

While St. Pierre showed his power and creativity in the ring throughout the fight, the challenger took the champion to a three round decision.  St. Pierre retained his reputation as a powerful fighter but took a 50-45 unanimous decision to retain his title.  Look for St. Pierre to come out strong in 2011 to further distance himself from competitors.
