It was November 15, 2008 when Brock Lesnar faced Randy Couture in what was being billed a fight for the ages. UFC 91 featured the up and coming former college and pro wrestler Lesnar vs. Hall of Famer Couture.

People still talk about what happened that night at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The Brock Lesnar Randy Couture fight didn't last long but there’s little doubt now that it helped start a new era in MMA.

Couture vs LesnarAs long-time fans know, Lesnar ended the fight in the 2nd round and captured the UFC Heavyweight title. Lesnar was 45 pounds heavier than the 45-year-old physical marvel Couture. The event was billed as "the biggest fight in UFC history" and in many ways, it was.  Dripping with storylines, the mainstream sports media was now interested.

Oddsmakers had installed Lesnar as a slight favorite to defeat Couture in UFC 91. It seemed like a UFC showdown for the ages that could easily go five rounds.

It turned out to be a little less than that.

Brock Lesnar Randy Couture, in fact, had turned into a mismatch.

Lesnar landed a second round right handed punch that made Couture wobbly. Not long after that, he sent Couture to the mat with another strong punch with his right hand. The fight was soon stopped as Lesnar landed a dazzling series of punches.

Couture, whose nickname is "The Natural", was coming off a hiatus of almost a year. After the bout, Couture offered no excuses, but instead gave credit to Lesnar after the stunning 2nd Round TKO.

For Brock Lesnar, the UFC Heavyweight title came in just his fourth pro fight. Indeed, the Brock Lesnar Randy Couture fight marked the start of a new era.
